Purdy

Just had to show a picture of my roving all dressed up and ready to hit the town (i.e. - braided). I can't wait to get to Sam's, get more vinegar, and get back home to dye some more!

Be sure to check out all of my new roving selections in my shop.

Also, if fiber is your thing, you can find loads of blog posts filled with fiber goodness over here at the Fiber Arts Friday Blog Carnival. Enjoy :)

Lookie what the UPS man brought me

Okay - so he didn't bring me hangers of dyed roving to put in my bathroom BUT he did bring me a couple of boxes... both of which contained the necessary supplies for the dyed roving hanging from the shower curtain rod.

I'm already pleased, not thrilled, but pleased with the turn out. It's better than I thought it would look for the first go round and I can't wait to spin some of it up to see how it turned out. It was all I had in my NOT to go and dye all of my wool tonight. I better take this in stages to learn a bit each time.

I need to get a light box made so I can get some good pictures of the roving once it's dry and braided up. I might even try to list some next week if I get a batch that I love dyed up tomorrow. I love new hobbies.

One thing is certain - I'm going to need more vinegar to get through this wool.

Sad news folks.

(from http://www.bnlmusic.com/)

"A MESSAGE FROM BARENAKED LADIES
By mutual agreement, Steven Page will be parting company with the remaining members of Barenaked Ladies. Jim Creeggan, Kevin Hearn, Ed Robertson, and Tyler Stewart will continue recording and touring together as Barenaked Ladies. Steven Page will pursue solo projects including theatrical opportunities while the band enters the studio in April 2009, and hits the road in the fall.

Page says "These guys are my brothers. We've grown up together over the past twenty years. I love them and wish them all the best in the future."

The band also wish Steven well in all of his endeavors. Ed Robertson says: "It's the start of a new chapter for all of us. Here's to the future!"

Everyone is looking forward to making new music and thanks their fans for their support."

I'm crying inside.

Good Things

A Twitter peep of mine (Xiane_org) mentioned something about talking about things that are good in life. I thought for a moment, albeit an extended moment, about the upcoming gardening season. I have been very excited about that lately. Today's beautiful weather only made the anticipation that much worse (because I know, even though it is warm today, we still have some cold left in the season).

Thinking about my spring garden was the first thing today to relax me. So I thought I'd blog about some "good in life" things.

1. Gardening. Does this even need an explanation? The feeling of dirt between your fingers, the coolness of the earth as you dig holes for your plants, the excitement that comes when you notice your first basil sprouts or when you dill starts to look like, well, dill... I could go on and on.

2. Cat naps. I'm not one of those to just sit down and sleep in the afternoon. My cat naps have to be perfect, almost more perfect than my sleep at night has to be. I have to have a certain blanket and pillow placement and the light has to be just right, but when all of those things are arranged, my cat naps are my favorite part of the weekend.

3. Cook books. I have a thing for cook books and squeal with excitement when I get one for a gift. The pictures, the fancy recipes and the promise of amazing food are enough to make me happy. Oh, I could cook something out of them, but that's just icing on the cake. The cook books are enough for me.

4. My mom. She should be first on this list. I honestly didn't think she'd be around right now to enjoy her company. But she's strong and screw cancer, she's still here. That is more than good in life, that is great in life.

5. My craft desk. It sits in the corner of our sun porch and overlooks the alley way. Not exactly a picturesque view, but it's lovely all the same. I can spy on neighbors, watch birds, enjoy the warmth of the afternoon sun and make jewelry until my hands cramp up, it's a wonderful little spot.

6. Austin, TX. When I first moved to Austin (to stay, the first, first time doesn't count). I didn't feel as though that was my home. When people asked where I was from, I would tell them the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Over the course of my time there, that changed and Austin became home. I did a lot of growing up there and experienced 3 of the hardest times in my life there - a lot of changes happened and while I would change a couple of those things if I could, I wouldn't change my time in Austin. I cry every time I go back there because I miss it so - I love it and the friends there.

I could list more - family (the cute girl in the picture above is my niece over 4 years ago), friends, boyfriend, pets, etc - but those are obvious. If they weren't nice things in my life, I'd cast them away. I don't waste my time with bad seeds who get me down. My Sweet Boy, siblings and friends are incredible - you don't need me going on about you :)

So there you have it - good in life things.

Another Ending

I'm faced with another end to the weekend (redundant?). It's always bittersweet. The late afternoon sun coming in the windows on this Sunday leave me with a feeling of peacefulness and I want to curl up and take a cat nap... BUT WAIT. There is so much left to be done before heading back to work tomorrow.

I wouldn't mind longer workdays and three day weekends. Is anyone else with me on that?

After sleeping until 11:00 AM this morning (longest I've slept in since college I think) I got busy with some custom orders that I need to get in the mail. One was yet another Marigold bracelet and the next was a completely new combination of browns and natural stones that I think is rather nice. I suppose today has been successful enough - perhaps everything else can wait on me to take that cat nap.

Sometimes you create

And sometimes you clean. Saturday's are usually reserved for grocery shopping and crafting. Today I shopped, spun some wool (which was more frustrating than it was relaxing - I was having issues today) and cleaned/organized. My house has kind of been in a semi mess since Christmas. There was a small pile of Christmas decor that I forgot to pack away before the boxes were taken to the basement, my sewing machine was still out from a past project, spinning supplies had taken over a corner of the living room, dust filled the corners and wool was oozing out of every bit of storage space in the guest room. It was time to take back my house.

It only took a couple of hours and a few listings on FreeCycle, but I finally feel like I've taken back the downstairs portion of my house.

The upstairs bedroom is an entirely different story that I don't care to write about.

My spinning stash got 2 new cubbies is as neatly organized as possible (as you can see above), I found some yarn I forgot I had and needed to list on Etsy and everything else just got put away. It's not a huge difference, but I just feel better while walking around. Now I feel like I can tackle some decorating projects and eventually the 2 boxes sitting next to my desk that never got unpacked when we moved.

And now I shall leave you with some new yarn porn - enjoy.

Pssst... I've got a secret...

hey, i know you like the locket above - go to my shop to buy it :)

I'm feeling a bit wordy today. A lot of things have dawned on me over the course of my 9 hours spent in my fluorescent light filled office on this Wednesday. In the words of the Dude "new shit has come to light"

I think I'll list them below:

1. I don't dress like myself 79% of the time. It really dawned on me today. My boots - not me. These black pants - not me. Okay, the purple turtleneck is right up my alley, but the rest, not me.

2. I go through periods of losing and finding myself. I think I'm in between times now where I realize myself has kind of been lost and I need to go bring it home again. It's been a rough year since last September so it's only to be expected - but it's time to rope me back in... starting...now.

3. My tummy is bigger than it should be. I want to do something about it but don't want to all at the same time. Damn smaller sized clothes and pictures of me from 2004.

4. I'm stressed knowing that I could do so much more on Etsy/crafting than I do but don't have the time to do it. I spend almost another full time week working on my jewelry and yarn besides working at Walton Arts Center so I really don't have more time to spare. Not sure I'll ever have time to do only that, but it is nice to dream about.

5. My car is a piece of work. I think the front tires are going to fall off soon.

6. I like my office makeover. It's good for my creative chi - too bad I'm at work not being creative when I'm surrounded by my office makeover.

7. I will start counting down the days until my trip to Austin next month. Starting with today - 23 days until go time.

8. Are any bad pictures with me tagged in them on Facebook? I should go check.

There - I think those were the major thoughts that came out of today. I've just been busy and sometimes that gets my mind going. I'm glad I was able to share it all with you.

Garden Plans

Gardening season is well on its way to being right at our front door. Seeing pictures of the herb garden I worked so hard on at the other house makes me a bit sad. I had to leave that house though - it was going to fall in around us. Hopefully whoever is there now can enjoy what I left behind.

The one (and only) advantage to leaving my old garden was the chance to get to start a new one, with new seeds and a new layout. I do know where it is going to be, but I'm not yet sure how it will exactly flow. Yes, one herb needs to flow into the next. I have purchased the herbs that will be started from seed (very easy to do). The specialty herbs (Thai Basil, Pineapple Sage, etc) will be purchased from the local farmers market or nursery.

It's already February 18 - it was this day a couple of years ago when I officially started my herb garden. I need to get out there, dig around in the ground and get started.

You can see my past gardening efforts in my Gardening photo stream over at Flickr.

Just For You

psst... I made you all a little something this week - well, a few little somethings.

I think they turned out nicely... don't you?

It's been a chilly weekend and is currently snowing just a slight, little tiny bit outside of my window so the warm, snuggly yarn seemed appropriate.

Make sure to come by and get yours before everyone else does.

The Sweet Boy and I are going out for a Valentine's Day weekend date this evening (we both worked yesterday) so I'm off to get gussied up. Enjoy the yarn!

New Signs of Life

While many of the trees that used to shade my house (one of the main reasons I rented it) are gone or eventually will be gone when the tree guys finish their work around here, there are still signs of life everywhere. I forget how quickly signs of spring show up each year. Here it is, in the middle of February, and there is green everywhere.

I have a thing for daffodils. Each time I move, I eagerly await this time of year in hopes that past tenants planted them. This year, I looked and looked in my front yard for little daffodil shoots coming out of the ground and was extremely disappointed when there were none. I decided to be happy with what I did have (irises) and get on with life.

However, lo and behold - I found some these when I got home from work today:They were hiding behind my house (a place I don't often go - it's messy, there is an alley back there, and it's just not pretty). They have given me new hope for my little yard - my now sunny yard thanks to the recent ice storm. I can't wait for the sun to stay up just a bit longer after work so I can do some work behind the house getting it cleaned and ready for spring and summer. There is a great patio back there, so eventually, it will be out outdoor hanging spot. In the meantime, I'll just set up a chair and go sit and look at my daffodils.

A Bit of Spring Cleaning

I'm not one of those people who loves a TON of items in her shop - so, in an effort to make some room for some new spring and summer designs, I'm having a sale. All of my beaded, knit bracelets are on sale (not including the one made of sterling silver for obvious reasons).

So come on over and check out my attempt at spring cleaning.

Oh, and mention that you read my blog in the notes to seller and I'll refund your shipping!

blog slacker, yes... spinning slacker, no

It's true, I haven't give my blog the attention it needs, the attention it deserves this week. To be completely honest, I've been exhausted. The lack of power and severely cold temps in my house that I put up with last week has left me tuckered out. I got off work a bit early today and came home and slept hard. Well, not so hard that I don't remember my crazy dream about staplers. Yes... staplers. I was proving to someone that stapling took far less time than paper clipping. It's true, it's much more efficient!

Just because I haven't been blogging doesn't mean I haven't been doing anything. I've been spinning like a mad woman. I'm participating in the Phat Fiber box for February and the theme is Chocolate and Romance. So my little fingers have been busy plying some lovely wool and my little foot has been treadling the heck out of my wheel. I finally have 45 samples put together and they will go into the mail tomorrow. I did four different yarns - Cloud 9, My Funny Valentine, Chocolate Kisses and Chocolate Sundae. All are lovely and I hope they lead to some sales. If not, it was still fun to do and I will be doing the March box as well.

Well, I'm off to finish packing up the yarn samples. Goodnight all.
