More on the topic of purging

I may have seemed a bit snobbish in my last post so let me be the first to apologize. I in no way was trying to belittle those of you out there with kids at home, or elderly parents you're taking care of at home, etc. I was speaking to those who stand in awe at my finding time to do something other than work, eat and sleep. You know who you are. You aren't the ones playing mommy at night, or daddy or 2 job bread winner... well, you get the picture. I am just worried that I came off a bit harsh.

I'm well into week 2 of the big purge. Tonight I went through my clothes boxes that live under my guest bed. I managed to only put back 4 of the 6 I had and 1 of them is just full of t-shirts I want to make into a t-shirt quilt. This purging thing is easy and boy do I feel better when I'm finished with a task. I've got a HUGE pile of clothes that I either don't like anymore or are just ill-fitting or out of style. They are either getting sold or donated. Ah, feels good... feels really good.

My next project is an easy, sit on the couch kind of project. I'm going to go through my photographs from high school and college. I'm sure I have a ton that I don't really care to keep and no reason to tote them around and store them. For one, photos are heavy as sin and two, they take up drawers in my guest room I could be using for wool - WAIT - did I say wool? God knows I don't need more wool.

But wool will probably go in those drawers.

I need to be honest with myself.

My wool stash will grow.

It's gonna happen.

I'll never purge my wool.

I haven't decided what my next purging project will be after the photos... perhaps kitchen stuff? Maybe pantry items I'm never going to consume? No reason to force it, it will come to me.

I just thought you might want an update since I so proudly announced my Christmas decor purge last week.

In between all of this cleaning and purging, I am finding time for spinning. I listed quite a few new yarns in my shop this past weekend and have another basket full ready to get photographed and go into the shop this weekend. I'm amazed at every yarn I create. While it's the same thing over and over, spinning and spinning, treadling and treadling - each yarn is different. Each yarn is fun, unique, and beautiful. I'm not sure I'll ever get tired of spinning.

And did I already mention I'll never purge my wool? I think I did.

Gardeners Bench? Check.

I think I might have promised you a blog post about why I wasn't overly thrilled with my day (and evening) spent in San Antonio, but I've lost interest. It's touristy, crowded, and costs a lot to park. That's basically it. I'd rather talk about gardening tonight.

I spent the bulk of this afternoon organizing my gardening area. At my last house I had a great shed (i.e. - weather proof) with a gardeners/potters bench and TONS of shelving. I don't think I realized how great I had it until I left the shed for the current house. Don't get me wrong, the house we're in now is about 59 times more fabulous than the last, but it doesn't have the shed. It does, however, have 2 saw horses just sitting in the basement, unused, lonely, and sad. So, I pulled them out into the sun light and put a couple of scrap particle board on them and viola - a table to use for my gardening prep area.

After pulling all kinds of odds and ends out from under the sun porch and doing a bit of sweeping/raking, I had a little gardening room. I organized my supplies, washed the tools, washed ALL of the pots (I have a lot of them), and put everything back all nicely and in their proper places. I still had room to store the stacks of patio chairs to keep them out of the weather until we need them. I didn't do any "actual" gardening, but now that I'm all set up otherwise, planting my herb garden after work this week will be a piece of cake.

Speaking of gardening this week, I also need to get some dyeing done... wait... I WANT to get some dyeing done. I've got some color combos I want to try out and have some new wool just screaming for some color. I've also got some spinning I need to do - whew, busy but looking forward to all of it.

Sometimes you create

And sometimes you clean. Saturday's are usually reserved for grocery shopping and crafting. Today I shopped, spun some wool (which was more frustrating than it was relaxing - I was having issues today) and cleaned/organized. My house has kind of been in a semi mess since Christmas. There was a small pile of Christmas decor that I forgot to pack away before the boxes were taken to the basement, my sewing machine was still out from a past project, spinning supplies had taken over a corner of the living room, dust filled the corners and wool was oozing out of every bit of storage space in the guest room. It was time to take back my house.

It only took a couple of hours and a few listings on FreeCycle, but I finally feel like I've taken back the downstairs portion of my house.

The upstairs bedroom is an entirely different story that I don't care to write about.

My spinning stash got 2 new cubbies is as neatly organized as possible (as you can see above), I found some yarn I forgot I had and needed to list on Etsy and everything else just got put away. It's not a huge difference, but I just feel better while walking around. Now I feel like I can tackle some decorating projects and eventually the 2 boxes sitting next to my desk that never got unpacked when we moved.

Stuff

One should never have this many shoes...Or this many clothes (these are the ones in "storage" - not the ones I wear on a usual basis).
I spent the bulk of this afternoon cleaning out my clothes and shoes in my closet and in my dresser. Just the hope of moving in a month has me ready to purge what I do not need. I certainly had a lot of stuff and hope that now I just have a medium amount of stuff. The house the Sweet Boy and I are crossing our fingers will be our next one has less closet space. That's not a problem as long as I can clean out my life. I just have stuff here, stuff there, stuff tucked in there. We came from the worlds smallest apartment, so we've acquired this junk since moving here 2.5 years ago. The only problem with a house that has a lot of storage is you will fill it up, whether you need to or not.

I did reward myself with some barely used Gap jeans ($15) and some brand new, but still at the used shop, purple shoes ($6). Seeing as how I got rid of about 8 pairs of jeans and just as many shoes, it's ok to get one of each to put back in the mess.Today was not entire spent on cleaning. I did get lots done for my shop exposure for July. My sister had these great shutters that make the perfect display stand for my necklaces and earrings. I think I'll just display my bracelets on a table, they don't get to hang.
